Position
Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, this is a vital customer facing role within TMC and will be responsible for driving TMC’s business development activities, spearheading the acquisition of new clients and projects and closing them, managing TMC’s client relationships, representing TMC at leading conferences, collaborating with internal business departments on proposal development and supporting clients’ ongoing project needs. This role requires a results driven, self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of clinical development and the biopharmaceutical industry and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
- Contribute to developing and implementing a comprehensive business development strategy to drive global growth.
- Identify and qualify new external business development opportunities – leveraging lead generation tools and managing opportunities from point of inquiry to closing of sale.
- Identify potential clients and strategic partnerships to expand our client base.
Client Acquisition and Relationship Management:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with targeted biotech firms and other relevant organisations.
- Lead the sales process from prospecting to closure, meeting and exceeding sales targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients to ensure long-term partnerships.
- Review and analyse requests for proposals and work with the Operations and Contracts teams on developing proposals and bid defence meeting presentations.
- Coordinate with the Contracts team and Operations to finalize strategy and pricing.
- Seek input from Project Managers/Directors to proactively address changes in scope and new opportunities.
- Work with Project Manager/Director and Operations to ensure changes in scope are appropriately negotiated with the customer/account.
- Maintain comprehensive customer records of all clients in TMC’s CRM tool (HubSpot), generate monthly reports on pipeline activity and status.
Market Analysis and Intelligence:
- Analyse potential opportunities and develop detailed business plans and sales strategies for each Customer/Account.
- Devise and implement comprehensive business strategies with marketing to drive growth and enhance market presence.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management to inform strategic decision-making.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the CCO to ensure alignment with global business development strategies and objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, marketing and finance to support business development initiatives.
- Represent TMC at industry conferences and networking events to enhance our visibility and reputation.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures, including ISO and GXP as needed.
Reporting and Analytics:
- Work with Business Analysis to track and report on business development activities, sales performance, and market trends.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on progress against targets and strategic initiatives.
What’s needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related field. Advanced degree (MBA, MSc) preferred.
- At least 7+ years’ experience in Business Development in a CRO, ideally with broad experience across the Regulatory, Clinical, Medical & Pharmacovigilance disciplines.
- Proven track record of securing new business and achieving sales targets.
- Strong knowledge of the clinical research industry, including market dynamics, regulatory environment, and key players.
- Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Proactive approach to work, demonstrating initiative and reliability.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients and attend industry events.
- Very organised and structured.
- Able to meet deadlines and communicate progress; be flexible to adapt if plans change.
- Excellent interpersonal and rapport building skills to work with stakeholders.
- Outstanding work ethic and a commitment to meeting timelines without compromising quality.
